Part Fifteen

Marie left Miss Sarah at the abandoned lot and started back towards the backyard where she hoped the Sniffer was still wandering around confused. She tried to remember exactly what route she'd used when she'd left the coal cellar, if the Sniffer had regained it's senses it would be on that trail.

She didn't have to wonder any longer when she turned a corner just as The Sniffer and it's handler did the same two houses down. She stopped still for a second before smiling suddenly and turning on her heel. The chase was on again.

She knew she had to lead her pursuers without them catching wind of her scheme. It was a simple plan and that's why it was going to work. People chased by Sniffers seldom chose simple, the one that didn't give up the second they saw the silhouette of the monster tried to outsmart them and that really only just prolonged the chase. So simple it was, fewer things that could go wrong and fewer things to remember. Just a chase, a bang and a sweeping up of parts.

As Marie navigated the streets, occasionally looking back to make sure her tail was still there, she hadn't stopped smiling.
