She neared the abandoned lot with the Sniffer not to far behind. A bright red piece of cloth waved from the nearly broken fence indicating that Miss Sophie had finished her preparations. Marie's smile got even wider.
She vaulted over the fence and landed softly sprinting towards the other side of the lot. It took a lot of self-control not to glance at the nearly invisible patch of disturbed earth when she passed it but she managed and continued towards the back of the lot. She was almost there, almost at the other fence when her foot found the wayward branch and she fell, barely managing to curl into herself and roll to avoid damage.
As she scrambled in the loose dirt she could nearly feel the triumph coming of the monstrous pair behind her and she closed her eyes. Just a few more steps. Just a few more. She kicked out and made herself roll away a little bit more and hoping to gain a bit more distance, be a bit safer. The fact that she had her back to them when Argyle's device exploded probably saved her life.
The explosion caused a geyser of multicolored slime to erupt from the earth. It was the Sniffer itself that stepped on it and it was caught in the blast full on causing the glass bubble to shatter and a horrid shriek to tear from it's throat. The Handler flew backwards towards the fallen iron fence, its frail body tumbled though the air before being pierced through by a stray metal bar, dying instantly. The Sniffer took longer to perish, it ran around in circles, skin bubbling and coming loose in slimy slabs where-ever Argyle's compound had hit it. Flesh melted off until the skeleton showed and finally after a few long minutes it's legs gave out and it fell to the ground with a resounding metal clattering.
